This idea is inspired by the contemporary quilting of patterns and Black portraits using unique fibers and swatches to tell a story with multiple art pieces, such as Bisa Butler’s work. I was also inspired by this book called Black Threads because it shows the history of African-Americans creating quilts and how enslaved people used them as signals and a form of expression. Also, this concept pays homage to the letterman jacket, a staple in black culture, and it plays into the Collegiate Branding component of the story. For the print, the colors represent every HBCU in the country.
